Writing and Citing Support

Tools for Choosing Reputable Journals

Not all researchers receive the same level of training and support in how to choose a trustworthy journal to submit their work to. Think. Check. Submit. provides a easy-to-use checklist that researchers can refer to when they are investigating whether a journal can be trusted. Through a range of tools and practical resources, this international, cross-sector initiative aims to educate researchers, promote integrity, and build trust in credible research and publications.

Ulrichs is the world's most authoritative source of bibliographic and publisher information for serials, and the most comprehensive source of print and electronic serials data available.

InCites Journal Citation Reports (formerly know as Impact Factor JCR) – InCites Journal Citation Reports Science Edition contains data from over 5,900 journals in science and technology and InCites Journal Citation Reports Social Sciences Edition contains data from over 1,700 journals in the social sciences.

Scimago Journal & Country Rank shows number of articles cited, either by 1-4 journals, by subject area, or by the journal's country of origin within 1-3 year time frame.

Have you recently written a paper, but you're not sure to which journal you should submit it? Or maybe you want to find relevant articles to cite in your paper? Or are you an editor, and do you need to find reviewers for a particular paper? Jane can help!

Just enter the title and/or abstract of the paper in the box, and click on 'Find journals', 'Find authors' or 'Find Articles'. Jane will then compare your document to millions of documents in PubMed to find the best matching journals, authors or articles.

Jane relies on the data in PubMed, which can contain papers from predatory journals, and therefore these journals can appear in Jane's results. To help identify high-quality journals, Jane now tags journals that are currently indexed in MEDLINE, and open access journals approved by the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ).
