Linguistics

Key resources and assistance for research in Linguistics.

Let's Get Started!

Welcome to the Linguistics Library Guide!

The task of finding sources can be daunting, so here are some solid steps to get started on your research!

Here's how to start:

  • If you are off campus, you will need to use one of two methods to access library resources. I recommend the VPN for most users, learn more in the Remote Access box.

  • Use Primo to find books, journals, and other library resources. Primo Searches the UF Catalog and the Statewide Catalog, so take note of which library your resource is in!

  • Look through the databases in the Databases tab. You can also look through other Research Guides; your research should always interest you, and there are many resources which are multi-disciplinary!

Managing your Research Materials

Keeping track of your sources is a vitally important part of research. Citation management softwares help you keep track of what articles, books, and journals you are reading, either for class, for research, or for fun. Managing your citations will come in handy when you are writing your bibliographies or when you are looking for an article you read two years ago and want to quote again.

UF provides access to a variety of citation management softwares, which you can compare using the Citation Management Library Guide.

The first link for each will take you directly to the software and will open in a new tab.

Remote Access

UF grants access to a myriad of databases, books, and other resources. To access to these when not on campus, you'll need to be connected to the UF VPN (virtual Private Network).

VPN

Watch a video guide on downloading and using the UF VPN

To download the VPN, follow the directions from UF IT according to your device.

After installing the VPN on your computer, you must log in to it before attempting to access library resources.

Logging in

  1. Make sure you are connected to the internet
  2. Find the Cisco AnyConnect Mobility Client in your apps & open it.
  3. In the VPN field, type vpn.ufl.edu. This will bring up a new window.
  4. Enter your gatorlink credentials. You will need to use 2-factor authentication.
  5. Make sure to turn the VPN on and log in before browsing off campus!
