Policies & Procedures for UF Library's Offsite Storage: Lending Policies

Lending Policies for offsite collections, FLARE & Storage

UF Students, Faculty, and Staff

  • Please see the Check-Out Guidelines and Privileges page for borrowing privileges. Please also see the Borrow, Renew, Return Policies and Overdue Fines policies.
  • Journals/Periodicals:
    • In-Library Use Only - items cannot leave Library West.  
    • Loan period is 14 days with unlimited renewals.
    • Article scan requests must go through Interlibrary Loan (ILL)
  • Books/Monographs:
    • Loan period of 8 weeks with unlimited renewals. 
  • Physical items are requested through the UF Library Catalog and Discovery Service, Primo and delivered to Library West for pickup. 
    • Law Faculty (only) can pick up from the Legal Information Center Library. 
    • UF Secure Storage items will only be delivered to the Grand Reading Room in the Smathers Library. These items cannot leave the Grand Reading Room.
  • Course reserves: 
    • Items needed for course reserves are able to be checked out and placed on course reserve for one semester with a one semester renewal.
    • The request will indicate the book is for Course Reserves with the Course number (prefix and number) and instructor’s name, and semester end date or return date.

Courtesy Borrowers, and Special Program Borrowers

  • Books/Monographs:
    • Loan period of 8 weeks with unlimited renewals. 
  • Physical items are requested through the UF Library Catalog and Discovery Service, Primo and delivered to Library West for pickup. 
    • UF Secure Storage items will only be delivered to the Grand Reading Room in the Smathers Library. These items cannot leave the Grand Reading Room.

UBorrow: students and staff affiliated with other Florida State Colleges and Universities (non-UF patrons/affiliates)

  • Materials borrowed through UBorrow are loaned for an initial period of 90 days from the date the patron checks out the materials. 
  • Materials may be renewed for a period up to an additional 30 days from the initial due date. 
  • Journals/Periodicals are In-Library Use Only - items cannot leave the borrowing institution's library.
  • Journal article scan requests must go through the borrowing institution's Interlibrary Loan (ILL) office.
  • Requests for physical items go through the borrowing institution's Library Catalog and Discovery Service, Primo.

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) 

  • Books/Monographs:
    • Materials borrowed through ILL are loaned for an initial period of 60 days from the date the patron checks out the materials.
    • Materials may be renewed for a period up to an additional 30 days from the initial due date. 
  • Journals/Periodicals:
    • Digital copies of journal articles are the preferred delivery option for ILL. 
    • If a digital copy is not acceptable, the print volume can be requested, but will be In-Library Use Only (item cannot leave the borrowing institution's library) and is loanable for 30 days with a 14-day renewal. 
  • Request items through your local ILL office.
