The X-Foundation, in cooperation with the Schmidt Family Foundation has announced the Wendy Schmidt Oil Cleanup X Challenge. This is a $1.4 Million competition designed to inspire a new generation of innovative solutions that will speed the pace of cleaning up seawater surface oil resulting from spillage from ocean platforms, tankers, and other sources. On May 22, 2010 President Obama established the National  Commission on the BR Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill

This commission's purpose is to:

  • Examine the facts and circumstances to determine the cause of the Deepwater Horizon Oil Disaster
  • Develop options for guarding against future oil spills associated with offshore drilling
  • Submit a final public report to the President with its findings within 6 months of the Commission's first meeting
