Survey:  “UF Authors Publishing in Open Access Venues”

Results summarized by Isabel Silver, 7-4-10

Target:  UF authors publishing in BioMedCentral (BMC) Journals

Survey Schedule and Protocol:  survey ran for 3 weeks:  from Wednesday, May 5th through Friday May 28th.  After one and a half weeks, we sent a reminder to those who had not yet responded.  

Survey Results:  24 responses out of 91 survey recipients.  Emails appeared to reach 86 targets; only 5 emails bounced back.

UF OPEN ACCESS MEMBERSHIPS

BioMed Central, Chemistry Central, & PhysMath Central
The University of Florida George A. Smathers Libraries announces a supporter membership in BioMed Central, a STM (Science, Technology and Medicine) publisher using an open access publishing model. All peer-reviewed research articles published by BioMed Central are made freely and permanently accessible online immediately upon publication.

All UF authors are given a 15% discount on the article processing charge when they publish in a BioMed Central, Chemistry Central or PhysMath Central journal.

Springer Open
As a member of BioMed Central, UF authors receive the same ARF discount of 15% on these new OA journals from Springer.  

UF Open Access Publishing Fund 
The University of Florida Open Access (UFOAP) Fund Pilot Project supports the goal of making UF research findings immediately, freely and globally available.  Policies and procedures, along with the application form, can be accessed on the Open Access website:  www.uflib.ufl.edu/oa
