QR Code generators

You have many options for creating QR codes.  Some are free and some are fee-based.  Here are a few of the free QR code generators that I have used.

  • Google URL Shortener
Only works with URLs. Keeps a log of all QR codes generated if you are logged in, and provides you with usage statistics. To access QR codes, click details.
  • Create QR Code (Google App)
Allows you to use Text or URLs to generate QR codes.
  • bitly URL shortener
Similar to Google. You need to sign up for a free account, but it will generate a QR code from a URL, and provides you with usage statistics.
  • MOJI-Q Maker
Allows you to add text to the QR code image

Ideas for using QR Codes

  • For marketing purposes, shorten the same URL with both Google and bitly and release them in different venues.  Use usage statistics to see which is reaching more people.
  • Links to videos:
    • Integrate research into substantive classes with QR codes that link to related research tutorials.
    • CALI QR Codes
    • Library/Campus tours
    • How to set up wireless printing
    • Link to "How to use this resource" in the stacks
  • Contact information
    • Put on your door so if a student drops by, they can scan your QR Code, which will automatically open an email addressed to you
    • Conferences
  • URLs
    • Syllabus/1st Day readings posted on your door
    • Event Advertising
    • Bookmarks with information like how to renew your books
  • Scavenger Hunt clues
