The Emerging Technologies Advisory Group consists of members from across the libraries who have a keen interest in improving the Libraries' web presence,  monitoring usage, as well as evaluating the utility of emerging technology products as applied to the library environment.

Who We Are

Background and Charge:

Emerging Technologies Advisory Group replaces the former The Library 2.0 Working Group and is charged with identifying and supporting knowledge discovery and exchange in the Web environment. The group will address the changing nature of on-line research and collaborate with library staff to identify a range of tools that promote scholarly discovery on-line.

The group may form subcommittees, with additional membership from staff and students, to fast track innovative projects that make use of open source software technology or social networking tools. The group will coordinate with library staff in implementing Web changes to library pages and once implemented reach out to students, faculty and staff in assessing interest and usability.

Areas of interest for development and implementation:

  • Continue to expand mobile access of Library services and resources at point of need; market to students and faculty; establish plan for ongoing usability evaluation.
  • Bring about better user experiences by planning and implementing user forums that offer opportunities for shared discussion and feedback.  
  • Explore customizable or agile user interface that would simplify and personalize Library Web navigation to improve content access.
  • Endorse standardize Web templates for consistent and professional Library Web presentation
  • Promote communication through application of social networking software and integration of multimedia content to library network presentation.
  • Investigate increasing Library presence on Sakai; in particular for easy access to Ares course reserves system to offer one-stop for student research.
  • Market services with annual Tech Expo forum and other broadly advertised user-centered activities.
  • Stay current with developments in mobile technology, cloud computing, content management systems, visualization software, QR code applications, gaming, and electronic resources/readers.
