Arthur R. Hogan was born in 1895 in McCoy, Florida, and served as a corporal in the 106th Engineering Corp . during World War I. After the war, he suffered from unspecified war trauma and was a ward of his parents. Records indicate he was institutionalized from 1923 to 1931 at the U.S. Veterans Hospital, a neuropsychiatric hospital in Augusta, Georgia. A small set of papers at the University of Florida Library documents his service. Digitized examples include his identification card, letters to his parents from Veterans Hospital No. 62, and entries from his father's account book that include travel expenses to visit him.
