What to Put on the Conservation Shelf: Library West and Marston Science Library 

Library West and Marston Science Library all require that sound discs, CD-ROMs, DVDs and Blu-ray discs be placed in separate, barcoded cases. Items with this type of media are never sent to Preservation solely because of the non-print accompanying media.

Soft cover volume with media In the event that the item has an audio cassette, 3 1/2 floppy disk, phonograph record, or other media not list above, check with your supervisor. Yes Yes
Hard cover volume with loose media In the event that the item has an audio cassette, 3 1/2 floppy disk, phonograph record, or other media not list above, check with your supervisor. Yes Yes

*If one of the above categories comes with supplemental media, place print document on Binding Shelf, while placing media on appropriate processing shelf. The print document and media do NOT need to stay together.

When an item in one of the above categories is a RUSH item, do NOT place it on the binding shelf.

  • Place a piggyback barcode on the back of the title page or other location away from the cover
  • Make a label for the item.
  • Add the 'rush, send to binding after return book' slip.
  • Send the item to the proper owning location ASAP.
  • If a rush item requires immediate Preservation attention, check with your supervisor.
