Summer B 2020 Holds Pickup by Appointment Service

Starting on 7/6/2020, UF affiliated patrons will be able to request items in the online catalog and schedule an appointment to pick up these items. The service will last the entirety of Summer B 2020 semester, 7/6/2020-8/21/2020.

Starting on August 28, 2020, the library buildings will reopen to UF Affiliates only.



Items available for pickup

Items in the main stacks at the following libraries will be available for pickup:

  • Architecture and Fine Arts Library
  • Education Library
  • Health Science Center Library
  • Latin American and Caribbean Collections
  • Library West
  • Map and Imagery Library
  • Marston Science Library
  • UF Library Storage Collections (Library West is the only pickup location for Storage Collections)

Not all items are eligible for this service. Short term loan items like periodicals, DVDs, Course Reserves and Circulating Technology are excluded from this service. Items from the Mead Library at PK Yonge, UF IFAS centers,UF Legal Information Center, and Florida Academic Repository (FLARE) are also excluded.

Face coverings and social distancing
The Libraries are following campus guidelines for maintaining social distancing and mandatory face coverings. Visitors to campus are required to wear a face mask and should maintain 6 feet social distancing.

How to request items for pickup by appointment

  1. Search for the item you want in the library catalog:
  2. Click the Request link next to the item call number.
  3. Sign in on the UF Authentication page with your GatorLink credentials.
  4. Choose your pickup location in the drop down menu.
    • Library staff will locate the items and notify you via email when the item is ready for you to pick up. This might take a few business days.


Did you receive an email stating that your hold is available?

  1. Once the item(s) are ready for you to pick up, you will receive an email indicating that you should schedule a pickup appointment.
  2. Use the link in the email to make a pickup appointment. Appointment times are offered in 15 minute intervals, and you can book your appointment time up to 14 days in advance
  3. After you make the appointment, you will receive an email confirmation of your appointment. This email confirmation will have additional instructions and directions to the pickup location as well as contact information for your particular pickup location in case you have questions. You will also receive an email reminder of your pickup appointment 2 hours before it occurs.


If you requested multiple items, please be aware that you will receive an email from the library for each item that is ready to be picked up. If you receive more than one email letting you know that a hold is available, please book only ONE pickup appointment time at the pickup location listed in your "Hold Available" notification. Upon verifying your appointment, library staff will charge ALL items currently on hold for you to your library account.



Please do not come to the library without an appointment.
We are working carefully to ensure scheduled pickup times that promote the safety of our patrons and staff. Scheduled pickup intervals allow for minimal contact, and the proper time required for staff to prepare your items for pickup (loaning the items to your library account, and bagging up your items for pickup). If you have questions regarding the process, contact the pickup location listed on your email notification.

Appointments will allow us to observe campus wide policies regarding social distancing and will also give library staff time to properly process and prepare your items for pickup.

Yes, you can change your appointment by contacting library staff at your pickup location or by cancelling your existing appointment and scheduling another appointment time.

We apologize for the confusion! If you requested multiple titles, you will receive an email from the library for every item you requested when it is available for pickup. If you receive multiple notices on the same day, please only create one pickup appointment booking!
The library staff will loan all the items that are currently on hold for you to your library account and they will all be ready for you to pick up during your pickup time.

We're sorry for the incovenience! Many requests have expired due to the the closures of our library spaces during COVID-19. We recommend placing the request again in the Library Catalog for pick up in Summer B or contacting your Subject Specialist for alternative resources.

We are sorry for the inconvenience! Due to COVID-19, we are extending due dates and not allowing recalls on library items. We encourage the return of library items, but want to give all of our patrons the time and flexibility to return books safely. Please contact our Subject Specialists, who will be happy to help you find alternative resources. You may also submit an Interlibrary loan request for a book chapter scan.
