Smathers Libraries
To achieve the strategic direction for creative and dynamic content management, dedicated staff in the Acquisitions & Collections Services Department acquire online resources, print books, serials, and various materials on behalf of the University of Florida Smathers Libraries, its various branches and the Health Science Center Libraries (HSCL).
The department consists of three units of operations: Collections Support, Accounting & Serials, and Electronic Resources (E-Resources), plus two programs - Gifts and Exchanges. In conjunction with the university libraries' Subject Specialists/Selectors and the HSCL Liaison Librarians, staff in the department manage orders, pay invoices, and track a combined materials budget in excess of 12 million dollars that involves hundreds of funds in Aleph.
Staff also administer several Use-Driven Acquisitions (UDA) plans; maintain thousands of serial subscriptions; oversee monograph approval/slip plans that acquire print and e-books; and establish license agreements and maintain access to several hundred databases and online journals.
