Top 10: Getting Started at the UF Libraries

  1. Set up the UF VPN or Proxy: When you're off campus, you will need to use the UF VPN software or sign in to the library proxy to access electronic databases, journals and books. The VPN is recommended.
  2. Search the library catalog for books or journal titles: Links to online books and journals are also contained within the catalog.
  3. Search databases to find articles in journals: If you are trying to decide which database is appropriate for your research, look at the list of databases listed in your subject area. Be sure to check the specific library for discipline specific research databases.
  4. Check your account status or renew material. You can renew your books and check your library account online. You will need to sign in using your Gatorlink account.
  5. Reserve a study room: Online study room reservations are available for Library West, Education Library, and Marston Science Library.
  6. Create an Interlibrary Loan account. This will allow you to place requests for books and journal articles not owned by the UF Libraries. The ILL office will contact other borrowing libraries around the world to request your book or article. Journal articles are normally sent electronically.
  7. ARES Course Reserves: Login with your Gatorlink to view course reserves.
  8. Manage your research: Sign up for RefWorks or EndNote Basic. Both citation management systems are free to the UF community.
  9. Manage your data: use this data management guide to learn how to manage, store, and deposit data into the UF Institutional RepositoryUF also subscribes to the Data Management Planning Tool, that will help guide your grant related data management plans.
  10. 3D Printing: is available at the Marston Science Library, Health Science Center Library, and the Education Library (coming soon).
