Health Science Center Distance Learning Students: Essential Information

If you are a student in a distance learning program in one of the Health Science Center colleges - this page is for you.

Eligibility for Services

Users who are eligible for distance learning services include:

  • Students living outside of Gainesville who are currently enrolled in UF distance learning courses/programs.
  • Students currently enrolled in courses taught at the IFAS centers outside of Gainesville.
  • Faculty and staff who provide distance learning courses/programs.
  • Faculty and staff at UF facilities outside Gainesville.

Gator1 Card

Note: An activated Gator 1 card is required to check out materials from the library.

A Gator 1 ID is the official identification card of the University of Florida. The program you enrolled in may facilitate your getting an ID. Contact your program's administrator or the Gator 1 offices on campus.

If you need to obtain a Gator 1 Card for yourself, contact the UF ID Card Services office to acquire a Gator 1 Card without being present on campus.

Gatorlink is the official communication mode within the UF environment. It is the email account and password that you were provided when you enrolled in UF classes. Remote access to the library's electronic resources (books, journals, and databases) will require you to sign on to the proxy service with either your Gator 1 ID or your gatorlink ID and password.  If you have questions about or issues with your gatorlink accout, please contact the UF HelpDesk for assistance.

Library Services

  • Remote access to online resources and other services electronically.
  • On-site borrowing at the University of Florida Health Science Center Libraries in Gainesville and Jacksonville and libraries of the other Florida State Universities and Colleges. (must have Gator 1 card).
  • Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery Service for Distance Learners (must have Gator 1 card).
  • Information and Reference Assistance via email, chat, or telephone.
  • Access to online library tutorials.
