ENC 3253: Writing in Health Professions: Journal Articles - more than PubMed

When using a campus computer or UF Wireless, you're connected to the UF network.  But for off-campus access to library-licensed e-Journals, research databases and e-resources, use either:

UF VPN - or - the library proxy server (on the remote logon page)

When you see in your search results, click for access to digital full-text material.

To find out if a journal is peer reviewed (also known as refereed), you can use the Ulrich's International Periodicals Directory.  Search by journal title, ISSN, etc. and look for the tiny referee shirt as an indicator.

To see if an article is peer reviewed (also known as refereed), look near the abstract, at bottom of 1st page, or end of article text or references to see a string of dates indicating the process such as "received <date>, revised <later>, accepted for publication <still later>."

Import citations from article databases and output them in BibTeX, HTML, Word, or Open Office format.

Another web-based option is EndNote Basic.  Register from UF at http://isiknowledge.com/ or http://www.myendnoteweb.com/. Once registered, login directly at http://www.myendnoteweb.com/.

If you insist on using Google to find research articles, use Google Scholar instead. Google Scholar indexes core society and commercial journals, sci-tech reports, and some academic websites.

In Google Scholar, link to UF's subscribed journals through Findit@UF. Click on Settings and, in the Library Links area, type University of Florida and select "University of Florida (Find it@UF)". If you are on campus or using the VPN or library proxy you will get links from Scholar into the full text of library-subscribed journals. This preference is set for the browser software on that computer.
