Because of our contracts with database providers, all users of these resources must be connected to the UF VPN client when using an off-campus network. The VPN client authenticates you as a legitimate UF user, and enables you to view materials from any non-UF network. The University of Florida has also instituted Duo-factor authentication when logging in to UF networks and resources. We have prepared how-to guides to downloading, installing and using the VPN client for Macintosh and Windows users, and you can download those files from the links below. There is also a guide to installing and using Duo authentication. In the near future, files for this process for iPad and Android devices will be available. If you have a laptop or other device, and want assistance in setting it up, feel free to bring it with you on the last Friday afternoon of the month, when I am in-house at Oak Hammock.
Every once and a while the VPN may not be available to log-in. In these cases, you can use the Library Proxy Server for short-term access to library materials. This method is a little less stable, so we recommend trying the VPN first.
These are some common applications used to view items that are viewable electronically from various databases. This software is free; we are supplying links for more information and downloading of the software directly from the distributor.
