African Student eXperience Resource Hub: FAQ

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What is the African Student eXperience (ASx)?

Answer

With the help and input from our current graduate students, we realized that African internationals were struggling to orient themselves to campus life. Making friends and connections on their own to discover helpful recourses and tips, they found informal ways to navigate the transition from their home country. This initiative is intended to create support for those informal connections and to formally encourage new friendship, connections, and recourses CAS and UF has to offer. With this in mind, the African Student eXperience was born -- a monthly event created by and for African Graduate Students to engage, connect, and learn about resources on & off-campus.

Q. What is the African Student Resource Hub?

Answer

In conjunction with the ASxperience, the African Student Resource Hub is a virtual space where international African Graduate students can learn about resources to support them on and off campus throughout their transition to the University of Florida. The Resource Hub is ultimately a reference guide for students to not only access important information and activities offered across campus, but also ask questions through our forum.

Q. What is ASx's relationship to the Center for African Studies (CAS)?

Answer

In partnership with the Office of Graduate Diversity Initiatives, the Center for African Studies created ASx and the ASx Resource Hub website in an effort to create a safe space for our community of international African Graduate students.

Q. Who can use the ASx Resource Hub?

Answer

While this Library Guide can be used by anyone, it was created with African International students in mind.

Q. How can I receive updates/stay in contact with other students who are a part of the African Student eXperience?

Answer

You can join register & attend one of our monthly meetings through the calendar tab at the top of this page. The next monthly meetup will take place on Thursday, February 25, and each last Thursday of every month until the end of the semester. These meetups include introductions, icebreakers, and discussions surrounding subject matter chosen by the participating students. We aim to cover topics such as on/off-campus housing, transportation, research/library assistance, general experiences, etc. These meetups will be curated by the students, making them as relevant to their needs as possible.

You can also join our WhatsApp group, which has 50+ students eager to connect so far! To learn how to join please email: ailori1@gmail.com.
