ENG4910 - Topics in Collaborative Research: WordPress Blog

The Panama Canal Museum Collection Blog is a WordPress blog at https://pcmc.domains.uflib.ufl.edu/. In addition to regular posts for our followers, we use the blog to host special content in collections: https://pcmc.domains.uflib.ufl.edu/collections/. 

The digital stories created as part of the ENG4910 course will be contributed to a collection, and you will need to create/edit the stories using WordPress. We will create Student Contributor accounts with the ability to edit posts, import images or other media, and submit the posts for review before publishing.

Instructions for editing and importing content are forthcoming.

WordPress Support pages are available, but be aware that you may not have the ability to use (or even see) all of the options presented on these support pages.

Logging In:

1. You will receive an email message asking you to reset your WordPress password.
2. After you have entered your new password, it will prompt you to log in.
3. Click on "Login in with username and password". (Do not click on "Log in with WordPress".)
4. Enter your username and your new password.
5. Once successfully logged in, you will see the Dashboard and you should have several menu options on the navigation bar: Posts, Media, Pages, etc.

Create Your New Post:

1. Visit your dashboard.
2. Click on Posts (on the left side in a desktop view).
3. Click on the "Add new post" button.
4. Give your post a title by typing it in the box at the top that says "Add title."
5. Start typing the text of your post or click on the + block inserter icon to add other content like images.
6. There are many types of blocks you can use (e.g., text, image, lists, etc.): https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/.
7. Click on "Save draft" to save your post as you are working on it. 

Edit a Post:

1. After creating a draft of a post, you can return to the post to continue editing it by visiting your dashboard.
2. Click on Posts on the left side.
3. Choose the "Drafts" tab (these are posts you have started but have not yet published).
4. Locate your post in the list and click the title of it to open the editing screen.
5. Once you have finished editing your post and are ready to submit it for review before publishing, click on "Publish". You will be prompted to Submit for Review.
