Civil & Coastal Engineering

The Civil Engineering department of Cochin University of Science and Technology organized an International Conference on Recent Advances in Civil Engineering (ICRACE) to disseminate the know-how and challenges in this area among technocrats, practicing civil engineers, researchers etc. This conference has been conducted biennially since 2004.

This reference text establishes linkages between the user industries and the providers of clean technologies and sustainable materials for a rapid transformation of the small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The text covers several aspects of sustainable applications including clean technologies, climate change and its effects, sustainable buildings (smart cities), sustainability in road construction, sustainable use of geosynthetic, innovative materials, and sustainable construction practices.

This collection covers essential concepts in the management of coastal disasters, outlining several field surveys of such events that have taken place in the 21st century, including the Indian Ocean Tsunami, the Tohoku Earthquake and Tsunami, and the storm surges generated by Hurricane Katrina, Cyclone Nargis, and Typhoon Haiyan. Measurements of flood heights, distributions of structural destruction, and the testimonies of residents are reported, with the results being analysed and compared with past events and numerical simulations to clarify and reconstruct the reality of these disasters.

This book provides an introductory text to prospective (graduate) port engineers and presents a wide variety of port subjects for practicing engineers covering all topics related to port engineering in a fundamental way with discussions targeted at a conceptual design level augmented by examples and case studies.
