There are many ways to find visual information in addition to traditional image search engines like images.google.com, etc. These include browsing books and articles, using an index to locate a specific reproduction, or searching a database like the following:

ARTstor
ARTstor is a nonprofit digital library of more than one million images in the arts, architecture, humanities, and social sciences with a suite of software tools to view, present, and manage images for research and pedagogical purposes. These community-built collections comprise contributions from outstanding museums, photographers, libraries, scholars, photo archives, and artists and artists' estates.
Art Images for College Teaching
AICT is a personal, non-profit project of its author and is intended primarily to disseminate images of art and architectural works in the public domain on a free-access, free-use basis to all levels of the educational community, as well as to the public at large.
