All about sustainability initiatives in the libraries

Mission of UF Smathers Library Green Team

The UF Libraries’ Green Team has a mission to “encourage and engage in action – through operations, education, research, and outreach – that affects change towards a more sustainable library, campus, and community”. Recent projects focused on the reduction of office and paper waste and included:

  • Coordinate of the campus-wide Tools for Schools Drive
  • Development of a book drive to support materials reuse
  • Lead a community Gators Read discussion on books related to sustainability
  • Implement duplex printing, for reducing paper waste
  • Development of a sustainability focused e-newsletter

From a previous Earth Day poster...

  • The Libraries Green Team helps promote:
    • New ways of thinking about library services and procedures to promote a safer and more sustainable environment
    • Reduction of waste to help UF meet its goal of Zero Waste
    • Conservation of resources within the Libraries
