French and Francophone Digital Humanities Projects

Where did the artists of 18th-century Paris live and work? Which city neighbourhoods formed the cultural geography of the early modern art world? And how did those geographies change between the seventeenth century and the eve of the French Revolution?
Based on original archival research and the latest digital mapping technologies, Artists in Paris is a website of interactive maps granting access to the geographies and demographies of Paris's art worlds. Yielding new information and harnessing the exciting possibilities of digital humanities for art-historical research, this website is intended as a valuable resource for anyone studying or researching French art, or anyone with an interest in the history of Paris.

The Baudelaire Song Project has one main aim: to research all the song settings ever of poems by famous French poet Charles Baudelaire.

La Cartographie des Mémoires de l’Esclavage (CME) répertorie, analyse et permet d’accéder aux réseaux militants, aux associations dirigées par des citoyens et aux institutions culturelles dédiées à la mémoire de l’esclavage et à la lutte contre ses séquelles au sein de la République française.

Provides a platform for the study of contrafacta in medieval Romance lyric. It is a digital repertory of Occitan and French models and contrafacta, which also includes all Latin, German, Italian, and Galician-Portuguese contrafacta connected to the Gallo-Romance tradition.

Project is just starting and will map artists and their neighborhoods in the 18th Century.

This project explores how certain key literary texts and traditions travelled along two principal axes: a northern route that stretches from England across the Low Countries to Burgundy and the Rhineland; a southern route across the Alps to Northern Italy and out into the Mediterranean and Adriatic seas, to the Middle East.

The Medieval French Roads Project is a digital map of roads and bridges in France between the 11th and 16th centuries. The map has been created using a variety of primary sources, from well-known itineraries such as the Itinerarium de Brugis and Charles Estienne's La Guide des Chemins de France, to unpublished manuscript sources.

The MedMel project contains digital editions of monodic melodies of Troubadours, Trouvères and Trobadores lyrics, and it is aimed at musicologists, philologists and performers.
The MedMel database allows you to search lyrics and melodic patterns, customize your visualization, switch from modern to ancient notation, export the music sheet and listen to the melody.

This database seeks to make known the rich and varied culture of public theatre that existed in the colony from 1764 to 1791 and to promote further research in this area.
