LibChat Dashboard Overview

Operator

  • Your display name

Offline/Online Button

  • Click "offline" or "online" to change your connection status. Changing your status to "offline" will close any of your chats in progress and set all chat queues (UF, Statewide, Academic) offline.

Set Away Box

  • Click the checkbox next to "set away" to let patrons and other chat operators know you have stepped away from your device. Patrons will see an away message when "set away" is active. Click the checkbox again to come back to the dashboard.

Monitoring

  • A list of chat and email ticket queues you are currently monitoring. To change these queues, go to Departments in the Settings menu.

Patron Chats

  • A filtered list of active patron chats. "All" includes all patron chats currently online. "Unanswered" includes patron chats waiting to be answered by a chat operator. "Mine" includes all of your chats in progress. "Others" includes all chats being answered by other chat operators online.

Internal Chat

  • Type in the name of a chat operator or a chat queue to start an internal chat with that person or with a group people currently monitoring that chat queue.

Departments

  • A list of chat queues online and offline. Online queues have a green circle and offline queues have a red circle. To change your monitored queues, go to Departments in the Settings menu.

Operators

  • A list of all chat operators online or set away. Online chat operators have a green circle and chat operators away from their device have a yellow circle.

Status Messages and Alerts

  • A window for system status messages and reminders, incoming chats, and email ticket notifications.

Patron Tickets

  • A list of currently active email or SMS tickets, including tickets answered by other chat operators in different chat queues. Email tickets are handled separately for UF Ask A Librarian, so there is no need to claim or respond to email questions unless you are forwarded a patron question in your email inbox. To change the list of active ticket notifications, go to Queues in the Settings menu.

Departments

  • A list of chat queues both online and offline. When you sign in to the LibChat dashboard, all chat queues will be online. Click the Offline/Online Button next to a chat queue to turn that queue offline. You must change these settings every time you sign in to the LibChat dashboard. For most UF Ask A Librarian staff, the queues to keep online are your name and University of Florida.

Queues

  • A list of email and SMS ticket notification queues. When you sign in to the LibChat dashboard, all ticket notification queues will default to Notify. Click the Don't Notify/Notify Button next to a ticket notification queue to turn off notifications for that queue. You must change these settings every time you sign in to the LibChat dashboard. For most UF Ask A Librarian staff, the ticket notification queues to keep on notify are Reference and University of Florida.

Notifications

  • Miscellaneous settings for your LibChat dashboard. Click the Off/On Button next to Sound to toggle sound notifications for incoming chats or tickets. Click the Off/On Button next to Desktop Notifications to toggle pop-up notifications for incoming chats or tickets on your device. These settings will be saved to your preferred internet browser, so there is no need to change these settings every time you sign in to the LibChat dashboard.
