Job Duties
The Undergraduate Library Advisor position will work as a part of a peer mentor program involving a cohort of undergraduate student leaders representing, promoting, and teaching for the UF Libraries. In this position, Library Advisors will have the opportunity to learn more about the library while working collaboratively on projects designed to support other UF students. While the position offers the flexibility to work remotely, Advisors are required to participate in on-campus activities starting in the fall.
As part of this role, Library Advisors will engage in training sessions with librarians on library services, information literacy, and marketing strategies. They will also attend weekly group meetings with their peer cohort and biweekly meetings with coordinators for reflection and feedback. Additionally, each cohort member will undertake an individual project to develop new promotional or instructional resources for UF students, with a particular focus on outreach to new and first-generation college students.
Some potential projects include, but are not limited to the following ideas:
  • Outreach and connection building with student organizations, and distribution of the ULA library guide.
  • Advocate for your professor to use library services such as course reserves
  • Perform informal or pop-up student-centered assessment
  • Serve as a mentor to undergraduate students in other UF programs such as Innovation Academy
  • Generate and recommend innovative ideas for library programs, events, and activities tailored to undergraduate students' needs and interests.
  • Act as a key liaison between undergraduate students and library staff, ensuring clear communication and addressing any concerns or feedback from students.
  • Participate and contribute to outreach initiatives and assist with the creation of promotional materials aimed at increasing student engagement with library resources and services.
  • Assist with organizing and leading student-focused activities, including orientation sessions, library tours, and promotional events to raise awareness and encourage library use.
  • Work on special initiatives, including digital or physical displays, exhibits, newsletters, student-centric programs, and collaborative projects with other departments.
  • Provide assistance to various library branches in areas of need, including organizing and participating in tabling events, assisting with library projects (i.e., research, videos), creating online resources, and helping with day-to-day operations as required.
  • Your choice – propose something you’re passionate about!
We are excited for participants to bring their own perspectives and experiences as UF students into the libraries’ conversation about our services, spaces, and teaching.
