Finding Academic Research Articles

To find scholarly academic articles and peer-reviewed articles, use one of the recommended databases on the Databases tab.

Developing Keywords
  • Break your research question into key terms to research the main aspects of your question
    • Example: How has migration influenced language trends in the European Union?
    • Keywords: Migration, language change, European Union
  • Here is a guide that can help you develop the appropriate keywords for your search
  • Keep track of the keywords that work best for you as you refine your search to home in on the most relevant results for your question,
Getting Started
  • Starting with a general purpose database is a great idea!
  • I recommend Google Scholar or any of the general databases in the Databases tab.
  • You can then move on to include searches in one of the more disciplinary specific databases for Linguistics, like the Linguistics and Behavior Abstracts we recommend on the Databases tab.
  • Use multiple databases in your search to get the most out of your efforts.
