Citation Management: Refworks Transition

The University of Florida’s access to RefWorks, including the legacy and “new” platforms, will end on December 31st, 2020. Users with active RefWorks accounts must migrate their citations to a new citation management software before this date.

Several alternative citation management tools are available for UF users at no charge, such as EndNote Web or SciWheel, or available for free regardless of affiliation, such as Zotero and Mendeley.

Exporting Refworks Citations

Refworks allows users to export their citations in a format that can be uploaded to most Citation Management Software. Detailed instructions for this process can be found below:

Access Refworks:

Export PDFs

Exporting your Refworks library will not include your PDF files. You must download each PDF file individually or link your Refworks to Dropbox.

To link your Refworks to Dropbox:

  1. Log in to Refworks
  2. Click on your name (top right)
  3. Click on Settings
  4. Scroll down the Settings options to Dropbox
  5. Following instructions to link to a Dropbox folder
  6. Once linked, your PDF files should all appear in the designated Dropbox folder
  7. For extra precaution, move or copy the PDF files to another folder
