ENC 3246: Professional Communication for Engineers

This guide provides you with information sources for the various assignments in Professional Communication for Engineers course.

Professional Bio

To write your Professional Bio Memo you’ll need to locate a few sources demonstrating your knowledge of the trends in your area of engineering. This page will help you locate those sources.

 Finding Scholarly Journals & Articles

  • Engineering Village – A great place to search for articles since it contains two databases (Compendex & INSPEC) that cover all areas of engineering.

 Finding Trade Journals & Articles

Locating these can be tricky, but here are some engineering-related databases that can be helpful:

  • IEEE Xplore Digital Library – You have the ability to filter your search to magazine articles (which are often from trade publications).

  • Technology Collection – Search your topic and then select Trade Journal from the Source Type filter options.

  • Scopus – Search for your topic and filter your results to "Trade Journal" using the "Source Type" filter.

Do the UF Libraries own the journal I need?

You can find out using the UF Catalog. Click on the pink icons below (e.g., ) to learn more.
