The issue of predatory journals is on the increase. Here is a short presentation about Navigating Questionable Publishing Practices
Below are some tips from the library to evaluate potential publication venues prior to submitting:
Reputable journals are included in databases such as InCites Journal Citation Reports, PubMed, Compendex, or Web of Science which apply rigorous criteria for scholarship and adherence to best publishing practices.
Check a journal for transparent policies, particularly regarding editorial board composition, peer-review and reasonable author processing fees. Think, Check, Submit offers a great checklist to help you evaluate a journal’s credibility.
Reputable journal publishers tend to be members of organizations such as COPE or OASPA and adhere to these organizations’ recommended practices for ethical, transparent scholarly publishing.
