Getting Started at the Library

1. Download and Install the UF VPN Software. The Gatorlink VPN will give you secure remote access to the UF network and provide full access to library's electronic resources.

2. Search the Library Catalog for resources. If you want your search results to include database content, such as articles and reviews, use the "Primo Search" option.

3. Use Course Reserves to access books, videos, and other assigned materials for your classes.

4. Watch the UF Libraries Tutorial videos. The UF Libraries Information Literacy Committee has created four short videos that provide instruction on exploring the Libraries website, connecting to the VPN, searching the catalog and Primo, and contacting a subject specialist.

5. Set up your Interlibrary Loan account. Use ILLiad to request materials that are not available at the UF Libraries.

Getting Started with History Research

What is your research question? If you don't have one, what interests you about the area of history you're studying? What questions do you have about what you've encountered in your reading? What topics would you like to explore in greater detail? 

What sources are available? You may already have some sources to help answer your question, if it's based on readings from a class. The libraries and special collections at UF have a wide variety of both primary and secondary sources in print and digital formats. 

What other resources do you need? If you need additional sources that aren't available from the UF Libraries, you may be able to request them through Interlibrary Loan or UBorrow. These materials can take some time to arrive, so make sure you request them well before your deadline.
