This guide features library resources curated for incoming University of Florida Health Science Center faculty.

Stay Informed on Key Topics through Alerts

Many databases will allow you to create an email alert for searches on topics, researchers, and citations of certain publications. Below are instructions for databases available at UF. You will need to be on the UF network to access Web of Science and Scopus.

To create a PubMed alert that will be sent to your email:

  1. At the top right of the page, click "Sign In" and pick a preferred option to sign in to PubMed.
  2. After you are logged in, run your search in the PubMed search bar. Talk to your librarian if you would like assistance creating a comprehensive search!
  3. Click the "Create Alert" link located below the search bar.
  4. Name your search, select your email delivery preferences, and click save!

To create a Web of Science alert that will be sent to your email:

  1. At the top right of the page, click "Sign In" and create a free account with Clarivate. You will need to be on the UF network.
  2. After you are logged in, run your search in the Web of Science search bar. Talk to your librarian if you would like assistance creating a comprehensive search!
  3. Click the "Create Alert" link located above the search results.
  4. Name your search and select "Send me email alerts".
  5. To set frequency and other options, click "Manage Alerts" and then select "More Options" on the right side of the Alert.

Other Alert options available in Web of Science:

  • Author alerts
    • Sent when new publications or citation is associated with the given author
    • Good for: tracking your own publications or the publications of your collaborators and students
  • Citation alerts
    • Sent when a new publication cites a previously published work
    • Good for: tracking who is citing your own publications or citing publications you are interested in following

To create a Scopus alert that will be sent to your email:

  1. At the top right of the page, click "Sign In" and create a free account with Elsevier. You will need to be on the UF network to access Scopus.
  2. After you are logged in, run your search in the Scopus search bar. Talk to your librarian if you would like assistance creating a comprehensive search!
  3. Click the "Create Alert" link located above the search results.
  4. Name your Alert, set your frequency, and select "Set search alert".

Putting the UpToDate App on Mobile Devices

Connect to the UF Network via the VPN through the Cisco AnyConnect App 

While on the UF Network, go to your internet browser and navigate to UpToDate through the UF HSC Library databases page 

Using the orange “Register” button, create your own personal UpToDate account 

This account does not need to be your Gatorlink login information. 

 

Install the UpToDate app to your mobile device and sign in to the app using your own personal UpToDate account 

You will need to connect to UpToDate while on the UF Network every 6 months to verify a continued connection to UF.
