VR Kits

HTC VIVE XR Elite

  • Stand alone headsets that have streaming capabilities
  • Can be tethered to PC via Steam VR, apps can be streamed to headset
  • Headsets are in kiosk mode with the following pre-loaded apps:
    • VIVE Browser
    • VIVEPort Video
    • VIVE Video
    • Open Brush
    • Cosmic Flow

Option 1 USB-C flash drive or SD card and adapter

  1. Transfer video files from phone or computer with USB-C port
  2. Plug USB flash drive into USB port on the rear of the headset
    • Option 1 - Copy files from headset (This option works the most consistently)   
      1. Go to settings using the right-hand controller VIVE button
      2. Select file browser and navigate to your USB drive
      3. Use the copy option
      4. Copy the files to the headset
      5. Turn off the headset then remove the SD card
    • Option 2 - viewing from flash drive (please be aware of the USB drive in the headset while viewing video to avoid damage)  
      1. Open Viveport video app
      2. USB drive should appear as a folder, and videos can be selected from the folder
        • If files do not appear, restart the headset with USB drive inserted

Option 2 Connect to Android phone with USB cable

  1. Plug Android phone into headset using USB-C cable
  2. While wearing the headset select “file transfer” on the menu that appears
  3. On the phone, you may get a prompt. If so, select MTP  
  4. In the MTP application, you can copy files from your phone onto the headset
  5. Move any videos or photos you wish to view into the downloaded folder or sub directory

Viewing 360 Footage

  1. Turn on the VIVE headset and follow the configuration instructions
  2. Click the VIVE button on the right controller
  3. Select library
  4. Chose the Viveport Video App
  5. Navigate to the video you wish to view
  6. Depending on the video format, it may not display in immersive format immediately (video appears in box)  
    • If you need to change the display format, select the eye icon using the right controller
    • Leave the visual settings as mono, and then select 360 for immersive video viewing
  7. Use the video controls to play and pause the video. Videos can be set to loop. 

Connect VIVE to PC to stream Steam VR content  

*Note this connection may need a computer with the minimum specs required by Steam VR.  

Minimum requirements for Steam VR

  • OS: Windows 10 or later
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-4590/AMD FX 8350 equivalent or better
  • Memory: 4 GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970, AMD Radeon R9 290 equivalent or better
  • Additional Notes: 1x USB 2.0 or newer, HDMI 1.4, DisplayPort 1.2 or newer

To connect the Headset to a PC, follow the steps outlined below

  1. Download and install the Steam client  
  2. Steam client
  3. Create a Steam account and download steam VR
  4. Download and install VIVE Hub
  5. Connect the headset via USB or Wi-Fi
  6. If connecting Via USB, it is recommended to remove the battery cradle from the headset
