Silhouette Cameo

Introduction Video

Silhouette Cameo 3 Directions

Obtaining an image

  1. The Silhouette processes SVG files in order to cut or draw onto materials.
  2. Any software can be used to create SVG files for processing. Black and white images seem to be processed best by the software.
    1. If you don’t have a source for images and don’t want to create your own images, you can download files. Wikimedia Commons and Pixabay have images available that state their use license terms and many are licensed for open use. You should review license terms before using images online.
  3. Downloading SVG files at the start makes the process easier.
  4. Cuts or drawings will be made at the borders and/or lines of images.
  5. Simple outline images tend to have the best results.

Sending your file(s) Using your phone

If you load your images onto your personal phone you can send them to the Silhouette.

  1.  Download the Silhouette go app.
  2. Follow the instructions on connecting your phone to the Silhouette.
  3. If you want to use your own files, click on the device icon. Choose the file you want to import.
  4. Adjust the image; it can be resized, cropped, mirrored, copied or rotated.
  5. Make sure to pick the matt size of 12 by 12 and the size of the paper (media) you are using. Standard printer paper is letter size.
  6. After your settings are complete continue to job settings.
  7. Material action and tool settings:
    • We recommend using the cardstock plain option when cutting colored printer paper. You may need to use cardstock heavy for construction paper.
    • The blades we have available are the autoblade.
  8. On the next page you can select what lines to use to cut your image. Using outline works well for complicated images when only the outline is needed.
  9. Please turn off Bluetooth once you are done printing and close the app to allow others to use the Silhouette.

If you need help, please ask at the Education Library Service Desk.
