Analyzing and Enhancing the Library Science Collection: A Student-Driven LibGuide Project

The initial design and creation of this LibGuide were skillfully undertaken by Chloe Mai, an undergraduate intern who played an integral role in our project, "Analyzing & Enhancing the Library Science Collection: A Student-Driven LibGuide Project," which was awarded in Spring 2024.

This initiative, supported by the Smathers Undergraduate Internship Program, focused on improving the awareness and discoverability of the Library Science (LibSci) Collection, essential for the professional development of Smathers Libraries employees.

Chloe, through her role, engaged in diverse aspects of library science, including data analysis, collection evaluation, and the creation of a user-friendly online resource. Guided by internship directors Ash Vaught and Stacey Ewing, her main objective was to develop an online finding aid (LibGuide), enhancing the accessibility of selected Library Science materials acquired over the past five years. This project not only aims to revitalize and advocate for an underutilized collection but also significantly supports the professional growth of our library staff, advancing their expertise and skills, which in turn benefits our patrons. Throughout this internship, Chloe gained invaluable hands-on experience, preparing her for further education and adding project management and skills to her resume for her future career path.

More details on the Smathers Libraries Undergraduate Internship Program can be found here.  For additional information on the “Analyzing & Enhancing the Library Science Collection: A Student-Driven LibGuide” project, please refer to the full proposal here.
