Course Reserves for George A. Smathers Libraries: Personal Copies

Learn about Course Reserves and how they can contribute to your teaching and learning experiences.

When should I provide a personal copy?

The Course Reserves staff may request a personal copy of a book or DVD in the event we are unable to purchase one.

What happens when I bring in a personal copy for Course Reserves use?

Upon receipt of the copy, the item is processed as follows:

  • UF library barcode is placed on the back cover to circulate the item.
  • Label is placed on the front cover to indicate the time for which the item can be checked out.
  • Label is placed on the spine of the item indicating the course number and instructor's name.

Course reserves items are kept behind the circulation desk of the libraries and a Gator 1 ID is required to check out items. While efforts will be made to safeguard materials, the library is not responsible for any damages to or theft of personal items placed on reserves. At the end of the semester, personal copies are removed from course reserves and instructors may pick up the items at the circulation desk of the processing library. If the items have not been picked up by the instructors after three weeks into the following semester, the Course Reserves units will send the items back to the instructor's department via campus mail, for distribution to the instructor by the department.
