College of Medicine

Information Resources for Medical Students LibGuide - If you're a First-Gen student in the College of Medicine and seeking to learn more about what the Health Science Center Libraries offer for database instruction, methods of practice, publication, and other health-related topics check out this LibGuide. In addition to links to useful resources and guidance from the library's subject specialists, it includes multiple embedded videos to guide you through health science-related topics. 

Med Student Organizations

FGSO – First Generation Student Organization - The purpose of the First Generation Student Organization (FGSO) is to support and empower medical students who are the first in their families to graduate from college. We intend to create a community and safe space for First-Gen students to share their experiences and to help one another succeed in medical school.

UF Medicine students host inaugural first-generation student research symposium - This article from Doctor Gator, College of Medicine News covers the FGSO's event that provided an opportunity for First-Gen students in the College of Medicine to present their research to peers and faculty.

College of Pharmacy

Pharmacy LibGuide - First-Gen Pharmacy students searching for drug information resources, mobile tools, seeking to explore the literature in their chosen field or guidance on how to contribute to the literature can find all that they need in this LibGuide. There are also links to multiple citation management tools and guides for how to evaluate the quality of journals before submission for publication.  

GATORX - This article in the College of Pharmacy magazine focuses on the First-Gen college student experience and includes inspirational testimonials from students. 

College of Dentistry

Dentistry LibGuide - This LibGuide encompasses not only the field of Dentistry but also multiple pages for specialties including Endodontics, Orthodontics, Periodontics, Prosthodontics, Pediatric Dentistry, etc. The page for Dentistry and each of the pages for the related specialties feature lists of texts for courses at UF and lists of the leading journals in the field. There are also links to helpful information regarding guidance on scientific writing and citation management.

Keys to Success in the Health Sciences - A year-long program at UF Health and UF Academic Health Center for freshman and sophomore students that seeks to foster a community of students and faculty to encourage growth, wellness, and academic success. This program is only available to those students who identify as First-Generation health professionals and come from an economically and/or educationally disadvantaged background among other eligibility requirements. Meetings are held bi-weekly and consist of career exploration, professional & graduate school preparation, and mentorship.
