Here's where you can find helpful visual guides to begin to use the Library's electronic resources. .

How To Guides for Using the Library's Electronic Resources.

We have prepared detailed visual guides to accomplishing basic tasks in the library catalog. Here is a list of the currently available guides. Links to download the PDF files are at the bottom of the page. 

  • Getting Started: this guide will show you how to get your Gator One ID Card, and how to get your library privileges established. 
  • Basic Searching Using the Library Catalog: An introductory guide to the library catalog's Primo interface 
  • Locating E-Books: If you are looking for electronic books on a subject, use this guide to learn the simplest way to search for and read available materials. Please note that for some materials, specific software may need to be installed on your computer. Links to where to download and install this software should be available on the e-book's page.   • Locating Electronic Journals: if you want to find and read specific journals, use this guide to see if the title is available in the UF electronic resources, and what databases the journal might be available in, this guide will show you how to do a search.  Download the guide "Locating Electronic Journals in the Library Catalog" below. 
  • Locating Articles in Academic Search Premiere: Academic Search Premiere is one of the largest dataases available, and has a huge amount of full-text material available. This guide will help you get started with this resource. 
  • Finding Ebooks: How to locate electronically available books using the PRIMO online catalog. 
  • Interlibrary Loan: The basics of interlibrary loan service for Oak Hammock residents. 
  • Databases and Open Access and Primary Resources, Oh My!: The  library has access to an astounding array of electronic resources and databases through the UF Libraries, but did you know that over 80 of these resources are openly accessible to anyone with an Internet connection, no VPN required?  You can find them all on the Libraries’ A-Z Database list, and this tutorial will assist you. 
  • Media Literacy: Evaluating and Finding Quality News: Information on how to evaluate the accuracy and fairness of news articles and sources
  • Genealogy 101: Presentation on how to get started with genealogy research.  
  • Library Guides by Subject: If you are doing  research in a specific field, and want to know the best resources to use for this, this guide will show you how to locate informational guides prepared by library subject specialists in that area.
