Digital Humanities Resources at UF

A guide for digital humanities resources. Created by Tiffany C. Esteban, MSI, Digital Humanities Associate.

Introduction

This section is comprised of what I understand as the main groups involved in digital humanities on the UF campus based on my and my colleagues' work.

Library West Scott Nygren Scholars Studio: A digital humanities meeting and working space that I manage.

UF Digital Humanities Working Group (DHWG): A campus-wide working group I convene.

UF Center for the Humanities and the Public Sphere (CHPS): A campus center with resources for organizing cross-campus digital humanities events and funding digital humanities projects.

UF Libraries Academic Research Consulting and Services (ARCS) Department: A library department I'm affiliated with.

For referrals or other questions, please contact me via email at tcesteban@ufl.edu.

Library West Scott Nygren Scholars Studio

At UF, the Scott Nygren Scholars Studio is a Library West space dedicated to digital humanities work, including solo and group projects, cross-campus events, and cross-departmental classes.

As the Studio manager, I facilitate this work by approving reservations for the Studio and assisting clients with event planning. For an overview on Studio reservations, please visit the Scott Nygren Scholars Studio homepage. For specific questions about your reservation, please email me at tcesteban@ufl.edu.

UF Digital Humanities Working Group (DHWG)

The UF Digital Humanities Working Group (DHWG) is a collective of librarians, researchers, and instructors interested in various aspects of digital humanities. As the DHWG Convener, I plan digital humanities programming for the academic year and write a weekly newsletter of digital humanities local and international news, job postings, conferences, and other items of interest. Subscribe to the DHWG email list to receive news about future newsletter issues and DHWG events.

The DHWG also manages the UF Digital Humanities Graduate Certificate, co-taught by librarians and researchers in the humanities and social sciences, for current UF graduate students.

If you have any questions about the DHWG, please feel free to email me at tcesteban@ufl.edu.

UF Center for the Humanities and the Public Sphere (CHPS)

"Founded in 2005 and launched in 2009, the Center for the Humanities and the Public Sphere in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Florida is directed by Dr. Barbara Mennel, Associate Professor of English and German. The Center has three interrelated purposes: to facilitate and promote the research programs of humanities scholars at UF, to provide an intellectual space and a physical location within the University and College of Liberal Arts and Sciences for critical and collaborative discussions of the humanities that reach across and beyond individual disciplines, and to provide a place for outreach to the community in which we live and teach. Building on the work of individual departments, the Center for the Humanities and the Public Sphere emphasizes collaboration and critical discussion as its basic program models."

I work regularly with colleagues at CHPS to plan and host events related to digital humanities research and professional development. If you're interested in planning cross-campus events or seeking funding for digital humanities projects, I'm happy to make referrals and introductions. Please don't hesitate to email me at tcesteban@ufl.edu.

UF Libraries Academic Research Consulting and Services (ARCS) Department

The Academic Research Consulting and Services (ARCS) department in the UF Libraries is comprised of library professionals who offer unique consultation work to support research at UF.

I am affiliated with the ARCS department as the Digital Humanities Specialist and an Artificial Intelligence (AI) Team Member. My colleagues within and affiliated with ARCS offer expertise in areas that highly complement digital humanities work, including natural language processing, data visualization, geospatial information services, and data management.

To request a consultation with us, please fill out the ARCS consultation form. If you have questions about connections between digital humanities and the ARCS department that are not addressed by the consultation form, please email me at tcesteban@ufl.edu.
