Health Science Center Libraries

The University of Florida Health Science Center (HSC) Libraries are active partners in the education, research, training and clinical needs of the HSC colleges, centers and institutes, the University of Florida and the state. There are four locations: HSC Library UF Campus (Gainesville), HSC Library Borland (Jacksonville), UF Scripps Library (Jupiter), and the Veterinary Medicine Education Center UF Campus (Gainesville). This page describes the features in the HSC Library UF Campus (Gainesville) location, which is housed on the 1st floor of the Communicore Building. 

1st Floor

  • Collaboration Commons featuring 10 large screen monitors, specialized software, 83 computer workstations, and white boards
  • Information Desk where you can reserve a locker, get answers to reference questions, and check out: course reserve items, anatomical models, medical manipulables, and lockers.
  • Specialized software includes: VH Dissector by Touch of Life Technologies, Anatomy.TV 3D Head and Neck Anatomy for Dentistry, and CT Scan Data: VGStudio Max
  • Printing, scanning, and copying available.
  • Wellness Collection and Graphic Medicine Collection
  • Special exhibits hosted regularly
  • BITS @ HSCL – a reservable teaching space that includes 51 individual computers/chairs, an instructor computer, 4 large monitors, and 2 projectors. Computers include an extensive software library

2nd Floor

  • Features 305 chairs, 78 individual computer workstations, and 7 computers attached to large screen monitors
  • Study rooms, cubicles, sofas, TVs tables for laptop use
  • Black and white printing, copying, and  scanning
  • KIC Bookeye Scanner for digitizing books, magazines, and journals on demand  
  • Device charging station with locks
  • Collaboration Center (C2-41A)– a technology enhanced conference room with table and comfortable seating for 25 with a computer that includes an extensive software library
  • Faculty Development Center (C2-41C) – includes large monitor and wireless keyboard with modular tables and comfortable seating for 12. Includes whiteboard walls for in-person collaboration and study
  • Study rooms can be reserved
  • Lockers are available on the 2nd floor outside of the library in the Communicore Building. To check out a locker, please visit the information desk on the 1st floor. Lockers can be checked out long term or for daily use
  • Two Nap/Energy  Pods are available on the 2nd floor for use
  • In the evenings, this is a quiet floor
  • 2nd floor is available for 24/7 access to UF students affiliated with any of the 6 Health Science Center colleges (Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Public Health and Health Professions, Dentistry, Nursing, Pharmacy), and UF Health/Shands Residents and Fellows. To learn more, visit our page

Smathers Library

The oldest library on campus. Smathers Library houses the Grand Reading Room, Special & Area Studies Collections, Latin American & Caribbean Collection, and Map & Imagery Library.

(Virtual) Business Library
