Copy of Preservation Guidelines for Circulating Branch Libraries

Care of Damaged Collection Items

Damaged items should be handled carefully and sent to conservation for repair.  Branch employees should not attempt to fix or repair books on their own, no matter the reasons.  All library materials are repaired only by the conservation team.  The conservation team is also on hand to assist with any discussions involving fines related to collection damage.

See the section on Transporting Items to Other Buildings to learn how to send items to ILF for conservation.  In some cases a collection item may be damaged to a point where an employee does not know how to send it without it getting more damaged (or causing damage with other items).  Contact conservation before sending it to ILF for directions if necessary.
