Using MarcEdit to Convert .mrc File to Tab Delimited File for Excel
Once the MARC files have been retrieved, they can be converted into a tab delimited file that can be opened in Excel, using MarcEdit.
Select Export Tab Delimited Records, and then set file paths to source and output files. Browse to desired source file by clicking the folder next to the text box:
Click Next>>.
Define the fields and subfields that you want to export into the spreadsheet. (Once you have done this, you can save your settings for future use.) Select a field and subfield and Click “Add Field” until you have all of the desired fields represented:
In this example, the ISBN (020$a), OCLC number (035 $a), LC call number (050 $a and $b), Author (100 $a) and Title (245 $a, $b and $c) have been chosen.
Once you have selected all of the desired fields and subfields, click Export:
The following message will be displayed:
(File path is dependent on initial setup of destination path to output file)
The resulting delimited file can be opened in Excel for additional manipulation as desired.
